Zuri Cliff / How it all began

Our Story

How it all began

“Rather uninteresting”

Early in 2024, on a day in January, we had already seen many plots, and none of them quite fitted. Almost all were long rectangles between beach and road: the sea at one end, the road at the other. This one, we were told, was rather uninteresting.

We stood at the edge of the cliff. Ahead of us the open sea, to the left the coast all the way to Makunduchi. Two views from a single point. We did not have to think for long.

One plan, one view

A plot on the cliff forgives nothing. We spent many hours with the architect to set the villa and the pool exactly where the sea lies straight in front of you. There would have been easier ways. We chose the harder one.

Stone by stone to the edge

From December 2024 to May 2025 the villa grows out of the rock: first stacks of stone and a foundation, then walls, until it stands at the edge of the cliff with the beach directly below.

Handmade, not from a catalogue

Every teak door in the villa is the work of a local craftsman: assembled board by board, fitted at the frame. The walls, the timber beams on the ceilings and the furniture came about the same way, all on site, before our eyes.

You feel it without knowing it: a grain that is different on every door, surfaces with a handwriting of their own, pieces that fit exactly where they stand.

And then the view

The pool that seems to flow into the sea. The terrace in the evening light. This is exactly why we chose this plot.

From 1 November 2026 it is yours

May and June 2026: the last touches to doors and bathrooms. On 1 November 2026 Zuri Cliff opens, for at most four guests.

What we were once told was uninteresting is then yours: the cliff, the sea, the view.
